Heart for Des Moines Serving Opportunities

The Heart for Des Moines ministry seeks to show the love of Christ by being the hands and feet of Jesus and extending gospel-centered mercy to the people in our local community who need it most.

"Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me."  Matt. 25:40

Organization/Ministry-Specific Serving Opportunities

Alpha Womens Center is a Christian organization that seeks to help women who find themselves unexpectedly expecting. They offer practical, material, emotional, and spiritual support to women and families across the Des Moines metro area in Iowa. Volunteer opportunities include serving individually or with a group to minister to women; sorting donations or cleaning/maintaining Alpha centers.

The Family Advocacy Ministry (FAM) seeks to provide support to foster/adoptive/kinship families in easy, practical ways.  Care Communities wrap around individual families to provide meals and other support.  Join individually, as a family, or as a community group!

Joppa is an organization that desires to prevent and ultimately end homelessness. They seek to create communities of unconditional love, support and hope for the homeless by meeting unmet needs in homeless services by building relationships; providing food, water and essentials; and connecting people with resources related to housing, employment, mental health and more. Joppa volunteers can serve at the center cleaning, organizing, and sorting; or join an outreach team to go to the homeless population in Des Moines to build relationships and deliver food/survival supplies.

Juvenile Justice Ministry (JJM) comes alongside justice-involved youth and engages them in Christ-sharing relationships, primarily in juvenile facilities. We continue those relationships as they are released through mentoring and connection to churches, organizations and opportunities.

The Saydel School District is right down the road from Saylorville Church. It serves pre-K through 12th grade as a part of the broader Saydel Community. Our Saydel team seeks to encourage teachers/staff by providing supplies, lunches, etc. throughout the year; as well as participate in community events (Homecoming parade, Trunk or Treat, etc.)

Love INC fosters collaboration and organizes holistic care to help churches serve their neighbors through resources and relationships. By networking churches together, each church is able to lean into their strengths, knowing that their neighbors will be cared for by the body of Christ within their community. Do you have a skill set that could help (construction/handyman, mechanic, financial planning, etc.) or do you love to connect with people and hear their story?  Love INC has opportunities to plug you in!

The Disaster Relief Ministry exists to step in to assist in the wake of a natural disaster. Serving on this team will look different depending on the need: We could be doing anything from tarping roofs, felling trees, cutting up downed trees, limbs, brush, etc., picking up debris, serving food and drinks to those out in the field working, or supplying gift cards to impacted families, just to name a few.
